The Adult Safeguarding Team (ASH) is a small team of senior qualified social workers and safeguarding practitioners, who have other professional registration or significant adult safeguarding experience.

The ASH offers expertise in areas of safeguarding adults with a focus of prevention and response to abuse during or following an adult safeguarding enquiry, which includes safeguarding planning and risk management.

See: Berkshire Safeguarding Adults Policies & Procedures.

They set out specifically how the Local Authority works with other organisations in the area, such as the police and the ICB to fulfil the requirements of the Care Act, including how they:

  1. Prevent and protect adults at risk from abuse;
  2. Empower and support adults to make their own choices;
  3. Investigate actual (or suspected) abuse or neglect; and
  4. Support adults who are at risk of, or experiencing abuse or neglect.

A range of safeguarding processes, forms and guidance can be found in the Local Resources area.

In line with the Care Act 2014, Wokingham Borough Council has a Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB). This Board also covers Reading and West Berkshire.

See the Safeguarding Adults Board section of The Care Act 2014 and find out more about:

  1. The aim of Safeguarding Adults Boards;
  2. Their role and statutory duties;
  3. When boards must carry out a Safeguarding Adults Review (SAR).
